Ripe for Revival

This week's focus: Society

I don’t think many Christians would argue that we live in a nation ripe for judgment. When you love the Lord, it’s difficult to watch as our culture celebrates sin and disregards God’s laws. Throughout scripture, we see how those who belong to the Lord felt while living in similar times:

In the Old Testament, before judgment fell on Jerusalem, we read, And the LORD said to him, 'Pass through the city, through Jerusalem, and put a mark on the foreheads of the men who sigh and groan over all the abominations that are committed in it.' - Ezekiel 9:4

Before judgment fell on Sodom and Gomorrah, 2 Peter 7 tells us that Lot was “…greatly distressed by the sensual conduct of the wicked (for as that righteous man lived among them day after day, he was tormenting his righteous soul over their lawless deeds that he saw and heard).”

As God’s children, our hearts should break over the abominations happening in America today. God sees us when we sigh, but as His ambassadors, we must do more than moan. On this side of the cross, we have the Holy Spirit empowering us and equipping us to push back the darkness as we seek to lessen the evil in the world. God knows those who belong to Him, and He has us here—at this time in history—for a reason.

It’s always darkest before the dawn. Yes, our nation is ripe for judgment, but that also means it’s ripe for revival. We must not lose hope but persevere in doing good, pray without ceasing, stand for what is right, and press on until Jesus calls us home.

Nahum 1:7

The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; He knows those who take refuge in Him.

Prayer Points:

Pray: Dear Jesus, thank You for equipping us to be Your hands and feet. Please remind our hearts to act courageously because we are eternally safe with You.

Think: “The closer we get to God, the more the slightest sin will cause us deep sorrow.” - R.C. Sproul

Act: Elections are a prime opportunity to “do good.” “And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.” (Galatians 6:9-10) Download our guide, Seven Ways to Pray for Election Integrity, and pray for the upcoming elections.
