This Too Shall Pass

This week's focus: Involvement

“This too shall pass” is a common phrase that reminds us of the temporary nature of life and our circumstances. Although it’s not a Bible verse, it’s a compelling reminder that gives us some “hope to cope.” The thought of being stuck in the middle of challenging seasons can feel overwhelming; we need to know that things will change. There may not be a verse that specifically says, this too shall pass, but scripture does tell us what will pass away.

Darkness is passing away (1 John 2:8).

Wickedness is passing away (Psalm 1:4-6).

The rulers of this age are passing away (1 Corinthians 2:6).

The world is passing away (1 John 2:17).

As our society falls further into depravity, these verses should bring comfort to all who belong to Jesus because they remind us that darkness, wickedness, evil rulers, and this broken world have a limit. Even Satan understands his time is short (see Revelation 12:12).

Knowing that this world is passing away, we must not be idle but do all we can to represent Jesus while He has us here. Let us work while waiting (being His hands and feet) and live like we are leaving (found doing the will of God).

Speaking of things passing away, 2 Corinthians 5:17 tells us, “…if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” We can rejoice that because of the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we are never “stuck in the middle” but are led to be bright lights to help those who are. We get to remind them that Jesus changes everything.
