DALLAS — My Faith Votes, a nonpartisan organization that activates Christians to vote in every election, urges all people of faith to advocate for the defense of the filibuster.
"This is not about Republicans or Democrats. This is an outright attack on a pillar of American democracy," said Jason Yates, CEO of My Faith Votes. "The removal of the filibuster will inevitably lead to the demise of our democratic processes as it will allow one party to control the conversation and thus the course of the nation. Without the filibuster, there will be no need for politicians to reach across the aisle and achieve bi-partisan collaboration. During a time when division is growing in America, this will tear our country apart and kill any chance for the unity of the American spirit.
Dangerous legislation such as the Equality Act and the For the People Act (S1) will strip Christians, and all people of faith, of their religious freedom, while also dismantling our election process.
It is time for people of faith to wake up and stand up. The alternative is a cultural revolution by fiat."
My Faith Votes is mobilizing people of faith to contact their senators, encouraging them to:
- Oppose the Equality Act
- Oppose S1 the For the People Act
- Urge Sen. Manchin to Protect the Filibuster
- Urge Sen. Sinema to Protect the Filibuster
“For years, Christians have warned against a whole variety of radical social policies. We are often called ‘uptight’ for using the term ‘slippery slope,’” said Mike Huckabee, honorary national chairman of My Faith Votes. “That slippery slope is now an avalanche – and if Christians don’t wake up, we’re going to be buried. With the removal of the filibuster, we risk a one-party takeover that will muzzle half of all Americans.”
