WEEKLY NEWS SUMMARY - MARCH 26, 2025

In this week's Intersect, read about:

Trump Reveals Who Was Behind Signal Text Chain Leak

“President Donald Trump revealed that a staffer with national security advisor Mike Waltz's office included the editor-in-chief of the Atlantic in a Signal group chat with senior Trump officials who were discussing plans for an upcoming strike on Houthi rebels in Yemen.” Read more at Fox News.

THINK.

  • In an interview with NBC, President Trump said, “It was one of Michael’s people on the phone. A staffer had his number on there.” The President also told reporters that the leaked texts had “no impact at all” on military operations, specifically the strikes that occurred in Yemen. But the White House has said that the National Security Council is still investigating the leak.
  • As one could imagine, this mistake sparked outrage on both sides of the political aisle. Seth Moulton, a Democrat representative from Massachusetts, said on X, “Incompetence so severe that it could have gotten Americans killed.” On the flip side, Joey Jones, a retired Marine EOD tech and frequent face on Fox News, wrote, “There is no good spin for the signal message. Multiple issues, 1) should they have been discussing this on Signal at all? 2) If Signal is an approved method, should there be multiple fail safes to ensure only approved personnel are in the chat. 3) Who was responsible for bringing the journalist into the chat? 4) Someone in that group absolutely has to be held accountable…. You simply CANNOT have unforced errors with national security.”
  • Yes, this was a serious mistake and could have been worse, but as we look at the facts, let’s remember that Scripture calls us to show mercy to others (Matthew 5:7 and Luke 6:36). We’re all capable of making mistakes, and most of us, if we are honest, have accidentally texted the wrong person at some point.

PRAY.

Father, we pray for wisdom, accountability, and protection over those entrusted with our nation’s security. Help our leaders learn from this mistake and take every measure to safeguard sensitive information. Remind us to extend mercy, even as we seek truth and justice. Amen.

ACT.

This is a complicated story with a lot of layers, which makes it even more important to approach it with wisdom and discernment. That’s why My Faith Votes, a ministry of Million Voices, put together a resource to help you navigate it. Download your copy here and feel free to pass it along to others who want to stay informed.

Colossal Collapse: Snow White Opens to Photos of MASSIVE Empty Seats Across America

“Even Snow White wouldn't want to wake up to this nightmare that she created. In the latest example of Gen Z realizing that words have consequences, Disney's real-life Snow White debuted on Friday to horrific numbers, with the $209 million budget film bringing in a reported measly $15.5 million to kick off its expected $40-$50 million box office weekend.” Read more at Outkick.

THINK.

  • The film is also tanking in the ratings. As of this writing, it’s sitting at 1.8 out of 10 on IMDb and 43% on Rotten Tomatoes.
  • Social media blew up over the weekend with people from Nashville to Canada to Utah sharing photos of completely empty theaters. According to National Review, this was “the worst opening for a Disney live-action remake ever.”
  • Some have speculated that the reason the film has performed so poorly is because of comments made by Rachel Zegler, the actress who plays Snow White, shortly after the 2024 election of President Trump. Zegler took to Instagram and said, “Another four years of hatred, leaning us towards a world I do not want to live in…. Leaning us towards a world that will force [my daughter] to have a baby she doesn't want. Leaning us towards a world that is fearful."
  • What’s your take? Were the political statements enough to turn consumers off, or are people just fed up with Disney constantly remaking the classics?

PRAY.

Heavenly Father, we pray for wisdom and discernment in a culture where entertainment so often pushes agendas that divide and discourage. Help us seek what is good, true, and beautiful, and may those in positions of influence use their platforms to speak life, not hatred. Amen.

ACT.

Be intentional with your support by choosing to spend your money on films, shows, and content that align with your values. Hollywood pays attention to box office numbers and streaming statistics—what you watch sends a clear message about what matters to you. Instead of supporting studios or projects that push agendas you disagree with, seek out and promote creators who share your values. Your choices can help change culture.

Trump Has Ordered the Dismantling of The US Education Department. Here’s What That Means

“President Donald Trump’s order calling for the dismantling of the U.S. Education Department has complex implications. The Republican president has argued the federal office hasn’t improved student outcomes and is unnecessary in a country where states and local districts primarily control education from funding to hiring and curriculum.” Read more at Associated Press.

THINK.

  • Why was the Department of Education established? The U.S. Department of Education was created by President Jimmy Carter in 1979 to coordinate federal education programs, promote student achievement, and ensure equal access to education. Its role was designed to support states and schools—not control them—by providing research, data, and enforcing anti-discrimination laws.
  • Why does the President want to abolish the department? In his executive order, President Trump said, “Closing the Department of Education would provide children and their families the opportunity to escape a system that is failing them. Today, American reading and math scores are near historical lows. This year’s National Assessment of Educational Progress showed that 70 percent of 8th graders were below proficient in reading, and 72 percent were below proficient in math. The Federal education bureaucracy is not working.”
  • What happens now? The President’s goal is to return most of the Department’s functions to the states, “while ensuring the effective and uninterrupted delivery of services, programs, and benefits on which Americans rely.” In other words, while states will take over many programs, critical federal aid programs won’t be eliminated—they will just be managed by other agencies. For example, after signing the executive order, Trump announced that the Small Business Administration would take over the student loan portfolio.

PRAY.

Lord, we pray for wisdom and guidance as our nation considers the future of education in America. Help leaders make decisions that truly serve our children, empower parents, and restore excellence in our schools. May the next generation be equipped with knowledge, truth, and the values needed to thrive. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

ACT.

Prayer walking is a powerful way to put action behind your prayers. As you walk near your local school, you’ll be prompted to pray specifically for students, parents, teachers, administrators, and school board members. Use our “How to Prayer Walk Your School” resource to guide your time and help you cover your school community in intentional prayer.

Columbia University Yields to Trump Admin Demands Over Revoked $400M In Federal Funding

“Columbia University has caved in to demands from the Trump administration in an effort to restore $400 million in federal funding that was yanked over how the school addresses antisemitism on campus.” Read more at Fox News.

THINK.

  • A few weeks ago, we shared in Intersect that the Trump administration revoked $400 million in funding from Columbia University over its failure to address antisemitism on campus. It looks like Columbia took the Trump administration’s warning seriously and is now making changes.
  • Secretary of Education Linda McMahon reportedly met several times with Columbia’s interim president, Katrina Armstrong, to address the antisemitism concerns. McMahon told reporters, “[Armstrong] understood it was her responsibility to ensure students on her campus were safe. She was committed to eliminating discrimination of any kind and tackling any systemic issues related to antisemitism on campus.”
  • What did Columbia agree to do? First, they agreed to ban masks during protests, preventing agitators from hiding their identities. Second, they gave campus police the authority to arrest students. And finally, the school appointed a senior vice provost to oversee the Department of Middle East, South Asian, and African Studies, along with the Center for Palestine Studies.

PRAY.

Thank the Lord for leaders willing to stand against antisemitism and protect students from hatred and discrimination. Pray that these changes at Columbia would create a safer, more respectful environment for all students.
