WEEKLY NEWS SUMMARY - JANUARY 29, 2025
In this week's Intersect, read about:
ICE Arrests Nearly 1,000 Illegal Aliens During Sixth Day of Trump Administration
“Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) made nearly 1,000 arrests on Sunday, with lots of activity taking place in the southeastern United States, according to various ICE field offices. The agency said law enforcement officers arrested 956 people and lodged 554 detainers, which means ‘there's probable cause to believe that the person is removable from the United States under federal immigration law.’” Read more at Fox News.
THINK.
- On Sunday, Trump’s Border Czar Tom Homan said the following to the press: “You're going to see the numbers steadily increase, the number of arrests nationwide as we open up the aperture. Right now, it's concentrating on public safety threats, national security threats. That's a smaller population. So, we're going to do this on a priority basis. That’s President Trump's promise. But as that aperture opens, there'll be more arrests nationwide.”
- Last Wednesday, the Pentagon deployed 1,500 troops to the Southern Border with the Defense Department promising that more will be sent as is necessary. This is in addition to the thousands of National Guard members already stationed at the border helping to stymie the flow of illegal migrants.
- Today, President Trump is scheduled to sign the Laken Riley Act. “Under this bill, DHS must detain an individual who (1) is unlawfully present in the United States or did not possess the necessary documents when applying for admission; and (2) has been charged with, arrested for, convicted of, or admits to having committed acts that constitute the essential elements of burglary, theft, larceny, or shoplifting.” This is another great step towards securing our borders and protecting American citizens.
PRAY.
Pray for the safety of all law enforcement officers participating in this strategic, dangerous effort to rid our country of violent criminals. Ask God to give them all wisdom as they track the criminals and plan their operations.
ACT.
State and local officials play a significant role in shaping immigration policy. They influence law enforcement priorities, allocate budgets, and make decisions that impact communities. Trump To Sign Executive Order Reinstating Thousands of Troops Discharged for Not Taking COVID Jab
“President Trump is expected to sign an executive order on Monday to reinstate thousands of US service members who were discharged for refusing the COVID-19 vaccine, a White House official told The Post. Trump, 78, is preparing to make good on a 2024 campaign promise by bringing back more than 8,000 members of the US military, restoring them to their previous rank and providing back pay and full benefits.” Read more at New York Post.
THINK.
- Beginning in 2021, under the Biden administration’s Department of Defense (DoD), America’s troops were required to get the experimental COVID-19 vaccine in order to serve their country. Those who refused to follow the mandate either retired early or were discharged by their branch of service. Senator Roger Marshall of Kansas told the New York Post, “Joe Biden’s shameful treatment of our Nation’s heroes will be a dark stain on our country’s history.”
- The executive order does not automatically reinstate all service members but rather gives all of them the opportunity to return if they would like. It also allows them to return with no demotions or reductions in pay.
- President Trump’s executive order is about so much more than vaccine mandates; it is about the preservation and defense of individual freedom. Through this action, he affirms that healthcare decisions are deeply personal and should rest solely with each individual. The Bible reminds us that our bodies are temples (1 Corinthians 6:19-20), and this executive order empowers us to honor and care for them accordingly.
PRAY.
Praise the Lord for all the talented men and women of our armed services who have been given this opportunity to return to their jobs. Thank God for leaders who are committed to defending our individual freedoms

JD Vance To March for Life Attendees: 'No Longer Will Our Gov't Throw Pro-Life Protesters in Prison'
“In his first public address since Inauguration Day, Vice President J.D. Vance assured attendees at the March for Life that the Trump administration has their back and will work to make it easier for families to raise their children. Vance addressed the crowd gathered at the 52nd annual March for Life in Washington, D.C., Friday. His speech comes less than a week after he took office as the 50th vice president of the United States.” Read more at The Christian Post.
THINK.
- In his address, Vice President Vance took a bold stand for the family, saying, “I want more babies in the United States of America…. I want beautiful young men and women who are eager to welcome them into the world and eager to raise them. And it is the task of our government to make it easier for young moms and dads to afford to have kids, to bring them into the world and to welcome them as the blessings that we know they are.”
- The day before the March for Life, President Trump pardoned nearly two dozen pro-lifers who were jailed under the Biden administration for praying peacefully outside of abortion clinics. While signing the pardons, President Trump said, “They should not have been prosecuted. Many of them are elderly people. They should not have been prosecuted. This is a great honor to sign this.”
- While many pro-life leaders are excited about President Trump’s pardons and Vice President Vance’s presence at the National March for Life, they want to be sure the President knows there is still work to do. Students for Life President Kristin Hawkins told The Christian Post, “The number one job right now should be defunding and devouring Planned Parenthood. So we are going to have to convince President Trump to join us on that.”
PRAY.
Thank You, Lord, for the thousands of men and women who braved the cold to march for the unborn in Washington D.C., and for a Vice President who recognizes that children are a blessing. We pray that You would continue to raise up leaders who recognize the sanctity of life and unceasingly defend it. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Vance Casts Decisive Vote Securing Hegseth's Confirmation After 50-50 Split
“The United States Senate has narrowly voted to confirm Army veteran and former Fox News host Pete Hegseth for the position of secretary of the U.S. Department of Defense, with Vice President J.D. Vance casting the tie-breaking vote.” Read more at The Christian Post.
THINK.
- Thus far, most nominees have obtained bipartisan support from the Senate, with one notable exception—Pete Hegseth. The three Republican senators who required Vice President Vance to break the tie and confirm Hegseth were Mitch McConnell, Susan Collins, and Lisa Murkowski.
- As of this writing, six of President Trump’s nominees have been confirmed by the Senate, including: Secretary of State Marco Rubio, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy, and Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent. Three more Cabinet picks will sit for their Senate committee hearings this week: Tulsi Gabbard, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and Kash Patel.
- There is still a long way to go with this process as 19 nominees are awaiting either a committee hearing or a final floor vote. It will be the end of February—possibly the beginning of March—before Trump’s cabinet is wholly in place. So, for now, the American people will watch from afar to see if the Senate will act on the mandate delivered by the American people this past November and confirm the leaders President Trump wants by his side during his final term.
PRAY.
Pray for the men and women of the United States’ Senate as they continue to perform their advice and consent duty. And pray for the nominees as they undergo a lengthy and grueling confirmation process. Ask God to give them wisdom and energy and ask Him to protect their families from those who wish to do them harm.
ACT.
Did you know you can watch the Senate confirmation hearings live from your phone or computer? This week, tune in to Tulsi Gabbard, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and Kash Patel’s committee hearings here on CSPAN.
